Campsites in Uganda National Parks

Tourists willing to stay in camping sites are welcome. There are a number of camp sites in different tourist destinations in Uganda. Camping in Uganda is a fantastic way to experience the country’s diverse landscapes and wildlife. Popular destinations include national parks like Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth, and Bwindi Impenetrable, which offer various camping options, from basic public campsites to more developed private ones. Jinja, known as the adventure capital, also provides numerous riverside camping spots.

Camping in Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP)

It’s Uganda’s largest national park. MFNP is famous for hosting a variety of wild animals like Elephants, lions, Antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, monkeys, buffaloes among others. Other notable species include giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and various antelopes, such as the Uganda kob. Birds in Murchison Falls National Park include birds in the park, some of which are rare, common, and occasional, such as the Grey crowned crane (Uganda’s National bird), Giant Kingfisher, Giant Heron, Shoebill stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Nightjars, Marabou stork, Black-headed lapwing, and Back-bellied Bustard, among others.
Camping sites in Murchison Falls National Park include Red-chill, wildlife camping at the Delta, and Bwana Tembo Safari Camp. The camping grounds are available, but visitors around with their own camping facilities pay less.

In Murchison Falls National Park, there is a campsite which is situated on top of Murchison Falls. Visitors can therefore thrill to views of the vast national park, home to many wildlife species, including over 76 mammal and 450 bird species, Karuma Falls, and the magnificent Nile. Camping in Kibale National Park

Kanyanchu campsite, Sebitoli camping site, and Little Monkey Camp, found around Kibale National Park. Tourists enjoy the campfire experience while at the campsite. The campsite offers toilet facilities, bathrooms and so on. Tourists can bring their camping gear or use tents from the campsite. While on a Uganda safari, it’s impossible to miss out Kibale National Park due to the large number of primates found there.  Primates found in Kibale Forest include Chimpanzees, Olive baboons, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Blue Monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, Vervet Monkeys, Red Colobus Monkeys, Uganda mangabeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Uganda Red Colobus, Bushbabies and Pottos among others.

Camping in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second-largest park in Uganda, after Murchison. Game viewing lovers should indeed visit Queen Elizabeth for game drives. Travellers on low budget tour find it easy to spend overnights in gazetted camps around the park. Campsite options in QENP include Mweya Campsite and Craters Campsite.
Mweya Campsite is situated near the Mweya Peninsula and offers a basic camping experience with game-viewing opportunities.
Craters Campsite, located near crater lakes, offers a natural environment with amenities such as water, electricity, security, and flush toilets, among others.
Campsites in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – the most popular and most visited park in Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is known for hosting the largest number of mountain Gorillas in Uganda. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site in southwestern Uganda, renowned for its biodiversity and daily gorilla trekking experience.
Gorilla trekking in BINP is affordable even to low-budget travellers, with a campsite available. Some of the campsites where visitors can stay at a lower price include:
  • Buhoma Community Rest camp
It’s located in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The campsite offers clean camping grounds, restaurants and helpful staff.
  • Ruhondeza campsite
Situated at the park entrance, the camp is clean with an affordable restaurant. Visitors can carry their own camping gear or hire from available service providers.
  • Ruhija Community Rest Camp
Situated in the Ruhija sector, it’s famous for providing clean camping grounds with facilities like toilets and restaurants, but you can bring your own camping gear and cook.
  • Nkuringo Gorilla Camp
Also offers a camping ground in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The campsite offers restaurants, clean toilets, and more.

Camping sites in Lake Mburo National Park

There are basic camping sites for budget travellers. Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest savanna park in Uganda, but it offers a variety of unique attractions, making it a must-visit. Some of the popular camping grounds in LMNP include;
Leopard Rest camp – This accommodation also offers a camping site where visitors can pitch their tents. The camp offers amazing views of the park and affordable facilities such as toilets, tents, a restaurant, and more. Other facilities offering camping grounds include Rwoyo Rest Camp and Mantana Tented Camp.

Camping in Kidepo Valley National Park

it’s a true wilderness of Uganda. Kidepo Valley National Park covers an area of 1,442 km² (557 mi²) and is the third-largest of Uganda’s 10 national parks, after Murchison Falls. Camping sites in KVNP include:
Apoka Rest camp – It’s one of the excellent public camping grounds in Kidepo Valley National Park. The camp offers a variety of good amenities, including cleanliness and spacious on-site restaurants that serve perfect meals.
